The active techniques discussed in this review are electric field, magnetic field and ultrasounds. Active techniques for heat transfer enhancement in PCMs are scarce in the literature. A significant number of research articles was found on the topic of combining two or more techniques. The main passive techniques families included in this review were inserts, nanoparticles, heat pipes and packed-bed PCMs. ![]() Heat transfer enhancement techniques system integration and optimization was addressed in the relevant context. The heat transfer techniques analyzed and included in the review were critically examined and discussed (1) from the heat transfer enhancement point of view and (2) from the alteration of the heat storage capacity point of view. ![]() ![]() ![]() This review paper collects recent and relevant research articles on the topic of heat transfer enhancement in phase change materials heat storage systems, covering both passive techniques as well as active techniques.
